Many preseason rankings has the San Jose Spiders to finish last in their division and has San Francisco Flamethrowers to be the favorites to appear in the Championship game. The San Jose Spiders proved they are a playoff contender with the upset over San Francisco. The Spiders offensive line of Chuck Cao, Steven Chang, hapa Justin Norden, hapa Sonny Zacarro, Drew Kim (and teammates Shane Early, Jackson Sterns, Evan Boucher) has shown the league they are an efficient high-scoring offense. Justin Norden was named AUDL player of the week in the upset over SF. Byron Liu and Justim Lim are also a big part of the SF Flamethrowers offense.

San Jose Spiders followed up their upset over San Francisco with a win over the San Diego Growlers. The Growlers feature offensive cutter Casey Wu and rookie Michael Tran.
Casey Wu: 3 games, 8 goals, 3 assists
Los Angeles Aviators, Bryan Nguyen, had a big year in 2016 with 46 goals and in the early part of 2017 he looks to have an even bigger season. In two games played so far, the Aviators are undefeated with Nguyen catching 11 goals. He was one of the league’s leading goal scorers after two games. Tom Doi of the Aviators leads the defense.

In a special event, the first ever AUDL endorsed mixed game was played in Seattle between the Cascades and the San Francisco Flamethrowers. Mixed games consists of both males and females playing alongside each other. Seattle-based Hana Kawai and Lani Nguyen participated for the Seattle Cascades. The roster of the San Francisco Flamethrowers mixed team included Meeri Chang, Sharon Lin, Magon Liu and Byron Liu.
