WATCH: clutch Steven Kwan ties the score in the bottom of the ninth then wins the game in the 11th inning

Kwan clutch hitting leads Guardians 7-6 comeback win over Rays

The walkoff sacrifice fly was the second career walkoff plate appearance by the second-year outfielder.

CLEVELAND, OH – The Cleveland Guardians continued the “never say die” attitude once again at the Progressive Field on Saturday night, coming back to beat the Tampa Bay Rays, 7-6, in 11 innings on a walk off sacrifice fly from Guardians outfielder Steven Kwan to score Guardians catcher Bo Naylor from third base. Kwan also tied the ballgame up in the ninth with a line drive single into left field.

This shouldn’t come as a surprise however, as nine of the last ten matchups between the two teams have been decided by a single run, including the two teams’ faceoff in the 2022 AL Wild Card.

For the Guardians, the team can feel the momentum swinging their way, as the win ties the team’s longest winning streak of the season at four games.

“Yeah, it really has,” Kwan said when asked about how this point feels compared to the 2022 season’s comeback toward the end of the season. “I mean contributions for everybody. Different people are getting hot. It’s not just a couple of people.”

Kwan continued, “Obviously we have Jose Ramirez, who I think is the best player in the league, and, when he’s not doing some of the things that he does, other people pick it up too. It’s huge. … When we get everybody rolling. I think we get really dangerous.”
