NBA G League: Jeremy Lin and Kai Sotto to play in Disney bubble

The next step of Jeremy Lin’s attempted return to the NBA will come next month in Florida after the G League confirmed plans for the new season on Friday.

The G League will follow in the footsteps of the NBA by playing a truncated season at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World Resort near Orlando, Florida.

This is the same venue where the NBA finished its 2019-20 season after it was postponed because of the coronavirus pandemic. The season, which ended with the

Los Angeles Lakers as champions, was played behind closed doors and following strict protocols.

The G League will follow similar protocols when they descend on the bubble next month.

Just 17 of the G League’s 28 NBA affiliate teams will travel to Florida but Lin’s Santa Cruz Warriors, who he signed for on Friday, will be there.

Lin confirmed his move to the G League affiliate of his first NBA team, the Golden State Warriors, on Weibo. He

told Chinese fans that he will play 12 games

in the bubble and that he is free to sign for another team at any time.

While the G League schedule is set to be confirmed, it has been reported that teams will play 15 games in the bubble, before the single-elimination play-offs.

The NBA affiliates will be joined by the G League Ignite, who feature Filipino hope Kai Sotto, the Filipino-American Jalen Green and Congolese forward Jonathan Kuminga among their NBA Draft-ready squad.

Lin played with the Ignite last month ahead of his aborted move to the Golden State Warriors, the fallout from which led to the so-called

“Jeremy Lin Rule” allowing NBA teams to place veteran players on the rosters of their G League affiliates.
The Ignite, who would ordinarily play outside the league system, will be allowed to play the play-offs this season if they qualify. The top eight teams in Florida will progress to the postseason.
A full season schedule will be announced at a later date, with the G League draft to take place on Monday.
