Ji Dong-won has signed a four-year deal with Dortmund and will begin training with the club on July 1, the German top-flight outfit posted on its official website on Friday.

His contract is due to take effect after he wraps up a six-month loan deal to rival Bundesliga outfit Augsburg from English Premier League club Sunderland. On Thursday, Augsburg announced on its webpage that Ji would be leaving after June.

Dortmund director Michael Zorc has welcomed the move, describing Ji as a striker who can play in multiple positions.

In an interview with the German daily Bild on the same day, Ji expressed his desire to play in as many games as possible for his new club to stay in contention for a place on the Korean national team for this year’s World Cup in Brazil.

In the latter half of last season, Ji was loaned to Augsburg, where he scored five goals in 17 games. He returned to Sunderland this season but played in just seven games, going scoreless.
