It is a somewhat tiny outfit that Azusa Nishigaki has to wear as an octagon girl and some men may mind having their girlfriends dress like that.
However, the former Miss Universe Japan finalist is single at the moment – work keeps her too busy to date – and said she wishes there would be someone who would care that way for her.
Only revealing her age as “in the late 20s”, Nishigaki made a surprise appearance at the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Open Workout session on Wednesday.
She expressed how thrilled she is to be picked for this Saturday’s UFC Fight Night Singapore, as it makes its foray into Southeast Asian territory.
Born and bred in Tokyo, the 1.69m tall model weighs just 46kg, though she claims she “tries not to care” about what she eats and eats whatever she feels like.
Her first ring girl assignment was with the now-defunct Sengoku Raiden Championship four years ago.
Thereafter, she was a guest octagon girl at UFC 144 in Japan last February, replacing regular Chandella Powell.
Her appearance in Singapore marks her third time as a UFC octagon girl.
“I’ve always wanted to work for UFC and it’s an honour. I get so excited watching the fights, especially when some of the fighters are my friends,” said Nishigaki, who is good friends with Japanese MMA fighter Takanori Gomi.
On the flipside, it also worries her more if they get injured.
Currently based in New York City where she is pursuing a year of studies in ballet and theatre at the Broadway Dance Center, Nishigaki hopes to expand her career beyond modelling, and get into dancing and singing.
Her work has taken her out of Japan several times, but she wants to travel more, to visit countries like Italy and Dubai.
Singapore was a place she always wanted to see, and her wish is more than fulfilled as she puts up at Marina Bay Sands (MBS) for this week.
You might just catch her shopping or eating (yes, she eats) at MBS.
