Hyun-Jin Ryu’s rookie card has embarrassing error

Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Hyun-Jin Ryu is looking pretty good in his first MLB season, after being imported from South Korea for more than $60 million. While he’s doing a good job at baffling MLB hitters, Ryu’s also confused some other folks.

Case in point: Remember when a TV broadcast invented an entirely different past for him? Looks like baseball-card maker Topps has done the same. Ryu’s recently released rookie card in Topps’ Bowman brand, says he played baseball in Japan before coming to America.

As far as baseball card errors go, that’s not catastrophic. It’s definitely not as controversial as Billy Ripken’s obscenity card. But it is flat-out wrong.

You can see how, here in America, an Average Joe could mix up two Asian countries. But those are two very different places. It’s like an Andrew Luck rookie card saying the star quarterback went to USC instead of Stanford.

Not the end of the world, but definitely worth a facepalm.
