Lee Nguyen Reportedly Being Courted by Vietnamese League Team and willing to pay bigger money than MLS

New England Revolution midfielder Lee Nguyen, who was previously linked to Southampton and Fulham, is now being courted by Hanoi T & T of the V-League in Vietnam, according to VietNamNet Bridge. Team officials have reportedly been in contact with Nguyen’s agent to try to get a deal done before the 2015 season. Apparently money isn’t much of an issue.

“Lee Nguyen has re-signed a contract with the New England Revolution, but we are willing to pay high prices to bring him back to the V-League,” Hanoi T & T PR Manager Nguyen Quoc Tuan told local news outlets.

After spells with PSV Eindhoven of the Dutch Eredivisie and Randers FC of the Danish Superliga, Nguyen played in Vietnam’s first division from 2009-2011, first with Hoang Anh Gia Lai then with Becamex Binh Du’o’ng. In his first year in the V-League, Nguyen had 12 goals and 16 assists. The 2010-2011 season was considerably less successful as injures limited him to 15 appearances and two goals.

Although he was a celebrity in Vietnam, Nguyen made the move stateside in 2012, eventually joining the Revolution. The Vietnamese-American was a MVP candidate last year after collected 18 goals and five assists during the regular season. These numbers caught the attention of US National Team coach Jurgen Klinsmann, who gave Nguyen his first cap since 2007 in a game against Colombia. Although Nguyen woonly played 12 minutes in the friendly, the player has predicted that more international appearances will be forthcoming.

Hanoi T & T stated that they have no problem with Nguyen choosing the US National Team over the Vietnam National Team. The proposed deal is more about bringing a talented player back to the V-League.
