UFC on FOX 4: Manny Gamburyan snaps skid, decisions Michihiro Omigawa

LOS ANGELES – Manny Gamburyan likely saved his octagon job and sent Michihiro Omigawa packing.

After a back-and-forth fight between the former judokas, Gamburyan took home a unanimous decision in the second preliminary-card fight of “UFC on FOX: Shogun vs. Vera.”

UFC on FOX took place Saturday at Staples Center in Los Angeles. Gamburyan vs. Omigawa aired live on FUEL TV in advance of main-card fights on FOX.

Gamburyan stalked in with hands low as Omigawa bounced and kicked the legs to start off the action. Gamburyan broke a staring match with a flying knee. But a straight left from Omigawa dropped him just moments later. Omigawa did not choose to keep the pressure on and instead continued to snipe as Gamburyan pressed in yet again. Omigawa, who switched stances several times, had difficulty replicating the success of his first straight left, and Gamburyan scored with several stiff punches. His subsequent attempt to take the fight down was unsuccessful, but with Gamburyan’s late-round surge, the first round was close.

An aggressive Omigawa pressed with left hands right off the bat to start the second, which prompted a short firefight as Gamburyan attempted to counter. Taking advantage of a lull in action, Gamburyan pressed for a takedown and was briefly caught in a modified choke. After an extended struggle, he managed to get the fight down, but Omigawa popped right back up…
