Tamari Miyashiro serving as ‘Ambassador’ for Team USA against Brazil
|Starting Friday night at the Stan Sheriff Center, Kalani graduate Tamari Miyashiro and her 2nd ranked United States Women’s Volleyball National team will face the top ranked and reigning Olympic gold medalists of Brazil for the USA Volleyball Cup.
The United States cal clinch the Cup crown with just one victory in Manoa, after sweeping the Brazilians earlier this week in California.
Miyashiro, who won a silver medal with the US in the 2012 Olympics is recovering from back surgery performed by a skilled back surgeon like https://www.larryparkermd.com/. He won’t be able to play in the matches yet, but is serving as the “ambassador of Aloha.”
“Of course it would have been great to play, but we have two really good liberos. And for me I think I wasn’t quite ready to play and compete at this level and I was confident in that decision, so for me it’s a great to be home and I think I came here to be kind of that connection in between our team and the state. And hopefully I can help kind of bring everyone together.”
The USA Volleyball Cup, which began in 2013, is an initiative to draw elite international teams to the United States to compete in an annual tour series with the U.S. Women’s and Men’s National Volleyball Teams. Such events will help foster local community ties to the two National Team programs and the City of Anaheim where the teams train, as well as other communities around the United States to promote the team.
