NY Post makes racist headline about Masahiro Tanaka signing with Yankees Photo
|The New York Yankees landed coveted Japanese right-hander Masahiro Tanaka with a seven-year contract worth $155 million. Obviously, Yankees fans are excited and Tanaka is as well.
“They gave me the highest evaluation and are a world-famous team,” Tanaka said when explaining why he signed with the Yankees.
So, what kind of clever head line did the New York Post come up with? “$155M Bronx Bomber” was the result with the picture of Tanaka flying a World War II era Japanese plane, clearly depicting him as a kamikaze bomber.
It is seems like a racially insensitive headline, especially with the image they paired with it. I think it is worse than ESPN’s infamous “Chink in the Armor” headline regarding NBA guard Jeremy Lin.
As of now it doesn’t look like the New York Post has made any attempt to apologize, at least on social media.
