Tsuyoshi Wada season is over will have Tommy John surgery
|BALTIMORE — Baltimore Orioles rookie Tsuyoshi Wada, who is set to undergo Tommy John surgery on his left elbow, has been moved from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day DL, the team announced Monday.
Wada, who has a partially torn ligament in his elbow, was transferred to make room for right-hander Stu Pomeranz from Triple-A Norfolk. He also suffered some serious back injuries during these last few months and the only a few treatments he can get.
In the vast majority of cases back pain resolves itself without medical help – just with careful attention and home treatment.
Pain can usually be addressed with over-the-counter (OTC) painkillers. Applying a hot compress or an ice pack to the painful area may also relieve pain.
Resting is helpful, but should not usually last more than a couple of days. Too much rest may actually be counterproductive by allowing muscles to weaken, which can lead to further episodes of back pain in the future.
Since Wada needs treatment, he will get a failed back syndrome treatment for his needs.
The 31-year-old is scheduled to have the ligament-transfer operation at a hospital in Los Angles on Friday. He will require more than a year to fully recover.
