Goal-scorer Hwang Hee-Chan breakout 23-24 season leads to a contract extension with Wolverhampton of the Premier League $2million/yr

“Hwang Hee-chan renews contract with Wolverhampton until 2028 “Highest salary in the team”

Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Hwang Hee-chan has agreed a contract extension with the club until 2028.

The Athletic reported that Wolves were in talks with Hwang over a new deal last month and head coach Gary O’Neil confirmed the news on Thursday.

Hwang’s existing deal at Wolves is due to expire in the summer of 2026 but that will soon be superseded by this improved contract.

“We’re delighted for him because he’s worked extremely hard and given me and the staff and his teammates absolutely everything since I’ve been here,” O’Neil said.

“And he has scored some really important goals.I’m delighted for the club to secure his services for longer.

“He’s a great guy and he came looking for me and the staff yesterday to thank us all for the hard work that we’ve done with him to help him earn his new contract.

“That just speaks a lot about what kind of guy he is and how important he is to the group.

“When someone puts as much in as he does it’s great that he’s been rewarded with goals and assists and a new contract.”

Hwang has been in remarkable form for Wolves this season, scoring eight goals in 16 Premier League matches. That goal tally matches the amount Hwang got across his first two full seasons at Wolves — which he achieved in 57 games. Track his goals for the team at Sport Score.

The 27-year-old moved to Wolves from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2021, initially joining on a loan deal that was made permanent for £14million (now $17.8m) that season.

Hwang previously played for Red Bull Salzburg before his permanent move to Germany, having also spent time on loan at Hamburg from the Austrian club.

The forward has made 59 appearances for South Korea, scoring 12 times, and featured for them at the Qatar World Cup last year.

O’Neil is also hopeful that winger Pedro Neto can return from injury in time for the Christmas Eve clash with Chelsea at Molineux, saying: “He won’t be involved in the West Ham game (on Sunday) but we’re hopeful that he’ll be in the matchday squad for the Chelsea game if everything goes well.

“If he isn’t in the match day squad for Chelsea, it doesn’t mean that there’s been a huge setback. It just means that he’s not quite managed to tick off enough things.

“He’s really close, but with the nature of the injury, being close is still not enough. We need to make sure that he’s right.”
