Younghoe Koo proving he can be the Falcons' long-term answer at kicker

It was also another game where kicker Younghoe Koo showed he can make an impact in multiple ways. On Thanksgiving, Koo flashed his superb onside kick ability, with the team recovering two against the Saints.

Then in Week 14, Koo recovered a fumble, something you rarely see kickers do.

The Falcons made a move that seemed foolish and poorly planned during their Week 9 bye, cutting veteran Matt Bryant despite the team being essentially out of the playoff race by that point.

Even more bizarre, Atlanta signed Koo and gave him former QB Mike Vick’s infamous No. 7 jersey despite not playing in an NFL game since 2017. This is what makes the 25-year-old kicker such a pleasant surprise this season.

In five games with the Falcons in 2019, Koo is 16-of-18 on field goals, with a long of 50 yards. He has hit nine of ten extra point attempts and won NFC special teams player of the week in Week 10.

In just a few weeks, Koo has quickly gone from an unknown to potentially becoming the Falcons’ long-term answer at kicker.
