Jackson State turns to Jarin Morikawa at quarterback
|Jarin Morikawa played in seven games last year, completing 50.4 percent of his 125 pass attempts for 633 yards and five touchdowns with three interceptions. He started in place of senior LaMontiez Ivy after Ivy suffered an ankle injury.
Morikawa competed with Ivy, Lyles, sophomore Jordan Williams and true freshman Juwan Adams in preseason camp for the starting role, which Ivy won.
Ivy struggled over the team’s first three weeks, allowing Lyles to become the starter in Week 4. But Lyles entered Saturday having completed only 48.9 percent of his passes and had thrown just three touchdowns against three interceptions.
Lyles was 4 of 12 for 26 yards with an interception when Morikawa entered.
“Coach Germany does a good job of getting us ready,” Morikawa said. “Watch a lot of film, put in a lot of work, timing with the receivers, protections.”
