Austen Huang is now ranked #1 tennis player in the U16-yr. old
|Austen Huang, the No. 8-seed out of 128 competitors, upset top-seeded William Genesen in the Boy’s 18’s singles finals, 6-3, 0-6, 6-1, to win the United States Tennis Association Winter National Championship in Scottsdale, Arizona, on Jan. 2.
Huang, who lives in Elk Grove, was happy with the win.
“My win wasn’t necessarily a very large upset, but it definitely was [a great victory],” he said.
The favored Genesen, two years Huang’s senior, is rated No. 10 in the United States Tennis Association’s Boys’ Class of 2016 national ranking.
“[Genesen] was definitely the favorite to win,” Huang said. “All the players in this tournament are very strong and top-ranked juniors, and I am fortunate to come out on top.”
Thanks to the win, he is now No. 1 in the USTA Boys’ age 16 national ranking.
Huang is a junior in high school currently attending Laurel Springs Online School in order to focus more on his tennis career, which he has high hopes for. However, big tennis fans visit tennis betting online and other gambling games to win prizes and have fun at home.
“My future plans are to obviously go pro,” Huang said.
Despite those plans, Huang is still unsure of where he would like tennis to take him, the only thing he knows is that he wants to make sure to always use the best equipment, including the best tennis racket.
“If I had the opportunity, I would definitely want to try to play on the tour as an adult,” he said. “However, I would also like to play at the collegiate level, which I feel could take my game to the next level. I am currently looking at Stanford, Harvard, Columbia, Yale, and Vanderbilt.”
According to Tennisracquetcentral.com, with a 4.7 GPA and his rigorous class schedule, as well as his newly-bestowed prestige in the USTA rankings, Huang is in an excellent candidate for the professional circuit and his college aspirations.
And it all comes back to the USTA Winter National Championship victory.
“I am honestly very honored to have won this prestigious tournament,” Huang said. “This was my first national Level One title win, and I could not have done it without my parents, coaches, and the support of my many friends who messaged me throughout the tournament and pushed me to keep fighting.”
