Tua Tagovailoa rated highest Hawaii prep quarterback in history
|With the release of Scout.com’s top 300 prospect list for the class of 2017 Wednesday morning, Saint Louis School junior-to-be quarterback Tua Tagovailoa became the highest-rated Hawaii high school signal caller since recruiting websites were born in the early 2000s.
Tagovailoa, who holds 15 scholarship offers, was rated as the 124th overall prospect and No. 12 quarterback in 2017.
The Crusader recently camped at USC and UCLA last week, where Scout and Fox Sports national recruiting analyst Greg Biggins was in attendance.
“He’s probably underrated in terms of eventually, I think he’ll be in that top 100. As strong an arm as you’re going to see, the ball just jumps off of his hand. (He) spins it really well, really consistent delivery, strong body, natural leader that just has a toughness to him. There’s a lot that I like about him,” Biggins said.
The prep football guru says Tagovailoa’s recruitment may have a favorite, different than what many presumed with his role model being former Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota.
“Kind of a vibe that we got is USC might be the team to beat, which is interesting. Who’s gonna make that decision? Obviously quarterbacks always commit early, and right now the vibe that we got is USC might be the team to beat for Tua. Obviously UCLA and Oregon are right there, but I think USC’s probably harder on him than any other school,” Biggins said.
