|Kiwi golfer Lydia Ko has won the Best Female Golfer award at the ESPY awards today.
The 17-year-old golf phenom beat current world number one Inbee Park and world number three Stacy Lewis.
Also nominated for Best International Athlete, won by Lionel Messi, Ko was the only female nominated for the award which also included nominees Cristiano Ronaldo, Lewis Hamilton and Novak Djokovic.
Early this year, Ko became the youngest golfer to hold the world number one ranking at 17 years and 167 days.
In the recent EZ Roll chipper review, one is reminded that, Tiger Woods previously held the record at 21 years and 167 days while Korean Jiyai Shin was 22 when she became the top women’s golfer in 2010.
Ko has held the number one spot for most of this year, relinquishing it in recent weeks to Park.
