Justin Yoon, Notre Dame Commit, No.1 Kicker in Class of 2015
|Notre Dame’s recruiting class added another player with the commitment of Massachusetts kicker Justin Yoon. The specialist is ranked the No. 1 kicker in the country by 247Sports and Kohl’s Kicker Rating considers him a five-star prospect.
He chose Notre Dame over Boston College, Northwestern, Stanford and Texas A&M.
Yoon will enter a depth chart that’s wide open, as Kyle Brindza departs after the 2014 season. That’ll leave Yoon and 2014 signee Tyler Newsome as scholarship kickers, with Newsome more of a punter than a field goal kicker.
According to an Irish Illustrated’s report, Yoon spent time on campus with Brindza, long snapper Scott Daly and special teams coach Scott Booker. His relationship with his position coach helped cement the deal. Kohl’s football has the following scouting report on the 5-foot-10 kicker.
Justin attended the 2012 National Invitational Scholarship Camp. His leg strength stands out. The ball explodes off of his foot. He charted the best out of anyone his age in KO’s and showed great ball striking in his FG’s as well, won Eastern Showcase Camp KO and FG competition, hit 60 yd FG off the ground, huge hang-times, D1 talent. Justin continue to impress every time he steps on the field. The 2013 Scholarship camp was no exception for him. His FG’s are D1 ready right now and his KO’s are tops in the country. Justin won the entire Scholarship camp KO charting comfortably, he has 80+ yard KO leg strength and has hit 4.3 second hangs. Justin’s FG’s are clean and get great lift, he scored a 28 in FG charting at camp. He is the best kicking prospect in the country and should get offered early. He can continue to focus in on his acceleration on KO’s and could gain even more from his powerful frame. Big Time Prospect.
Yoon makes 14 commitments for the Irish in the 2015 recruiting class.
