2014 Hawaii football recruiting: Warriors land two-sport star Larry Tuileta
|The Hawaii Warriors picked up a 2014 commitment this past week when quarterback Larry Tuileta (Punahou School/Honolulu) verbally committed to play for his home state. The 6-foot-2, 195-pound quarterback is also planning on playing volleyball for the Warriors. Normally a two-sport star is football and basketball or track, but not for Tuileta.
Landing a spot on the volleyball team as well is no small feat as the Warriors are currently No. 15 in the nation. This just means that Tuileta is very athletic, and it shows that he runs a 4.68 to go along with a solid 28-inch vertical, which is well above average for quarterbacks.
Even with the athleticism that is possessed by Tuileta he is a pocket passer, but he is able to perform the read option and get out of the pocket to make plays. His stat sheet is not complete, but in what has been recorded he has completed 63 percent of his passes and 19 touchdowns to just one interception; plue he averaged 245 yards per game.
Below are highlights for Tuileta, and more can be found at Hudl:
Obviously these are going to be the best plays for Tuileta, as they should be. It looks like he has good foot work and that could be due to being a star volleyball player as well.
There were at times where he showed an over extension, or long wind up on some throws. However, looking at these throws he was able to get the ball to only where his receivers had a chance to make a play.
