Koji Uehara breaks records, makes history
|ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The greatest season ever by a Red Sox closer became even more memorable Wednesday night.
By tossing another scoreless ninth inning in a tie game against the Rays, Koji Uehara extended his streak to 34 consecutive batters retired. According to the Society for American Baseball Research, that’s a franchise record, eclipsing Ellis Kinder’s mark of 32 batters in a row set in 1952.
Uehara hasn’t allowed a run in 291⁄3 innings, the longest single-season streak by a Red Sox reliever since Dick Radatz tossed 33 straight scoreless innings in 1963.
