Ryu Hyun-jin talks: Dodgers, Scott Boras meet to talk contract
|The Los Angeles Dodgers met with Korean pitcher Ryu Hyun-Jin and his agent Scott Boras on Monday to try and work towards a deal, Tim Brown of Yahoo! Sports reported on Monday.
The Dodgers bid $25.7 million for the 25-year-old left-hander who Boras says reminds him a lot of Mark Beuhrle. Through MLB’s posting process, the Dodgers have a limited window – until Dec. 10 – to try and sign Hyun-Jin. If they don’t succeed they don’t have to pay him any money.
It is unknown how much Hyun-Jin is seeking, but because he is associated with super agent Boras the asking price is likely to be a good amount of money. The two more recent high profile Asian imports – Yu Darvish and Daisuke Matsuzaka each received north of $50 million contracts.
In 2006, Ryu became the first Korean player to win the MVP and Rookie of the Year in the same year. He has a 2.80 ERA over his seven-year career in Korea. Last year he had nine wins and a 2.66 ERA with 210 strikeouts in 182 2/3 innings.
