2012 London Olympics: Judo – Hiroaki Hiraoka clears 1st hurdle and gets a Silver medal

LONDON–Hiroaki Hiraoka avoided the pitfall that met him four years ago in Beijing, scoring a decisive win in his opening match of the 60-kilogram class in men’s judo competition Saturday at the London Olympics.

Hiraoka, a first-round loser in Beijing, built up a big lead before throwing Britain’s Ashley McKenzie for an ippon victory in the second round.

Hiraoka ends up with the Silver medal.
