Chen Wei-yin clinches his fifth major league win
Taiwanese pitcher Chen Wei-yin (陳偉殷) scattered seven hits over seven innings and clinched his fifth major league win as the Orioles set a franchise record with their seventh straight victory in Boston, downing the Red Sox 2-1. With the win, the Orioles reclaimed their top spot in the American League East Division.
The left-handed Chen yielded one run on seven hits, while striking out four without any walks and stranding six runners. Jim Johnson got three outs for his 18th save. The Red Sox scored the only run on Mike Aviles’ sacrifice fly in the third frame with none out and runners on the first and third bases. The 26-year-old Chen later struck out Dustin Pedroia and avoided further damage.
Chen told MASNsports through an interpreter that compared with his last start, he did not think too much about the game and just tried to get as many strikes as he could.
Last time, he was too cautious and nervous at the beginning of the game, Chen said. Besides his own stellar performance, Chen said the Orioles’ bullpen was also reliable. “Our bullpen is actually very stable. I don’t need to worry about what would happen to them and just feel at ease to leave the work to them,” Chen added.
