Maxxis Tires signs advertising deal with Wei-Yin Chen Baltimore Orioles and Jeremy Lin New York Knicks
BALTIMORE (May 7, 2012) — Maxxis International-USA has struck a deal with the Baltimore Orioles baseball team covering Maxxis signage behind home plate for the Orioles’ home games this season, expanding to four the number of Major League Baseball teams with which Maxxis has similar deals.
In announcing the deal, Maxxis pointed out that Orioles left-handed pitcher Wei-Yin Chen is a native of Taiwan. Suwanee, Ga.-based Maxxis-USA is a subsidiary of Taiwan’s Maxxis International/Cheng Shin Rubber Co. Ltd.
Maxxis said Mr. Chen is the first Taiwanese-born player in Orioles’ history; he previously played for the Chunichi Dragons in Japan. The Orioles signed Mr. Chen in January to a three-year contract. Through May 7, he is 2-0 in five starts with a 2.76 earned run average.
Maxxis has similar deals with the New York Yankees, Los Angeles Dodgers and Washington Nationals. Maxxis also signed an arena signage deal earlier this year with the New York Knicks of the National Basketball Association, during the height of “Linsanity” surrounding the unexpected emergence of Jeremy Lin, a Harvard University graduate and son of Taiwanese parents.
