There was a lot of concern about brand Linsanity when the New York Knicks fired head coach Mike D’Antoni on March 14. But the value of Lin’s brand, which I estimated to be worth $14 million in mid-February, keeps growing as the guard has continued to play well under new coach Mike Woodson and the Knicks appear likely to make the NBA playoffs.
Not only has Jeremy Lin added value to JP Morgan’s $300 million sponsorship of Madison Square Garden, but Lin’s number 17 jersey continues to be the league’s top seller. As my colleague Chris Smith recently wrote, according to an ESPN poll Lin is more popular in New York than Derek Jeter.
