Rangers plan to be very cautious with Yu Darvish’s transition to MLB
|Even though Yu Darvish has never pitched an inning of Major League Baseball in his life, the Rangers sunk more than $100 million into him this offseason while letting 2011 ace C.J. Wilson walk away for less.
So it’s no wonder that the club is planning to be extra careful when it comes to Darvish’s transition to the big leagues.
According to SI’s Tom Verducci, the Rangers are hopeful that they can put Darvish on a training regimen that will wean him from the marathon pitching performances he often endured in Japan (Darvish had 15 starts with 120+ pitches last year), and prepare him for shorter outings with less down time in between.
But in order to ease the switch, the Rangers could give Darvish a few extra days off, while looking to their bullpen to carry the extra weight. They will consider adding a sixth starter to the rotation at times during ….
