Houston Rockets camp report: Guard Jeremy Lin hopes to carve out spot
|A free agent looking for a chance last season, Jeremy Lin was signed by his hometown Golden State Warriors and quickly became popular in the Bay Area. But that storybook road to the NBA did not pan out when the Warriors waived him last week. Still, the 6-3 Lin did not sulk. Having received no scholarship offers after high school and gone undrafted out of Harvard, he was not about to complain about any chance to make an NBA roster, and he joined the Rockets on Monday hoping to carve out a spot with a team in transition.”I understand its a business, but for me, Im just thankful for another opportunity,” Lin said. “Moving on from there – obviously, its home, but I still get to play basketball in the NBA, so Im very excited about that.”Im just thankful to be here. Im excited. Right now, Im just getting used to the guys and the system.”
Lin averaged 2.6 points and 1.4 assists in 29 NBA games last season. In 20 games for Reno of the NBA Development League, he averaged 18 points, 5.8 rebounds and 4.3 assists. And hes been happy to see Harvard basketball prosper since he left, even cracking the Top 25 last week.”Its a credit to coach Tommy Amaker and what hes building there,” Lin said. “I was excited to be a part of it. Now, Im just rooting for them. Im happy for them.”
