China hold off Iraq upset behind Guo clutch play

BEIRUT (FIBA Asia Cup 2017) – China survived a scare to prevail with a 61-60 victory over Iraq to tip off Sunday’s final Group Phase action.With Iraq leading by 9 with just over four minutes remaining, the upset of the tournament appeared to be on, but China refused to go down without a fight.

Ailun Guo caught fire, scoring 10 of his 19 points in the final three minutes to see China through. Han was the only other player in double figures for China with 11.

 

Omar Alazawi led Iraq with 22 on 8 of 13 shooting, going six of seven from beyond the arc.

Guo Ailun SAVED THE @$$ of CNT Head Coach Du Feng, as he scored 14 points of his 19 points in 4Q, 10 points in the last 4 minutes to lead CNTto a NARROW 61 ~ 60 win over Iraq in their last game of the prliminary group of the 2017 FIBA Asia Cup.

China played very poor, bricked almost all of their 3-pointers (2/17 3-pointer%) and was behind by double-digits for most of 3Q, until Guo Ailun’s eruption in 4Q.

Guo Ailun exploded in the last stretch of 4Q, constantly menacing the Iraqidefense with his penetrations, scored 10 points in the last 4 minutes, and added 2 assists to his team mates for an INCREDIBLE COME-FROM-BEHIND WIN !!!

He finished with 19 points (8/17 FG% 1/7 3-pointer% 2/2 FT%) 6 rebounds and 3 assists in 29 minutes of action.
