Japanese star Rui Hachimura signs with NCAA Gonzaga – Potential NBA draft pick

Gonzaga’s success with international recruits has continued, as sources inform Scout that the Zags have received a Letter of Intent from Japanese standout Rui Hachimura. The 6-foot-8 Hachimura is a hybrid forward with long arms and quite a bit of upside who is considered to be one of the top young talents in Japan.

Hachimura’s play at the FIBA U17 World Championships in 2014 put his name on the map, as he averaged 22.6 points and 6.6 rebounds in an event. He scored 25 points against a USA team that had wings such as five-stars Josh Jackson and Jayson Tatum.

The son of a Beninese father and Japanese mother, Hachimura plays for Meisei High School in Japan.Hachimura took two visits to Gonzaga’s campus and most recently was in Spokane last week. He also unofficially visited Arizona last year.According to sources, it’s possible that Hachimura ends up reclassifying and joining Gonzaga’s 2017 recruiting class.

For now, Hachimura joins Zach Norvell, Killian Tillie, Jacob Larsen and Zach Collins as part of the Zags’ 2016 class.
