Asians in Ultimate Week 8: Chan ties MLU record for total points in game; Chang, Nguyen, Wu on National TV

–MLU–

Tyler Chan officially has my Rookie of the Year vote. Through the first few weeks of the season I chalked up Chan as a high energy deep threat and nothing more. After paying more attention to his spatial awareness and timing the past few weeks, I’m baffled that he’s only 22 years old. He’s been a safety valve as a downfield receiver on a team full of veterans and by the looks of it, he’s getting comfortable throwing downfield (something he wasn’t doing early in the season). Chan scored 13 points (5G, 8A) in the Boston Whitecaps win over New York Rumble.

Watch Tyler Chan,

Vancouver Nighthawks Brendan Wong has been consistent all season. He had 5 points (3G, 2A).

Calvin Oung of Washington DC Current had 4 points (2G, 2A)

In the weekly national ESPN3 broadcast game, the Los Angeles Aviators hosted the San Diego Growlers. LA has several Asians on the roster. Steven Chang continues to be the “Quarterback” of the team in making the majority of passes and Bryan Nguyen added two goals. Casey Wu of San Diego also added 2 goals.

To watch the game,

Barrs Lang led a 4th quarter surge to help the San Francisco Flamethrowers upset the home team San Jose Spiders.

Chicago Wildfire’s handler Bob Liu (3G, 0A)  had productive game in big win over Cincinnati
