Recap: Asians in Week 1 of Professional Ultimate

Vancouver – Brendan Wong showed why he was the MVP of the MLU last season. He lead all goal scorers in the game and had some highlight reel catches and throws. Vancouver nearly won, losing to Drew Kim’s Sanfrancisco 15-14. Kim dropped a pass in the end zone but made it up with a leaping catch over a much taller defender to a long catch.

In the AUDL, Vancouver played a classic game against Seattle. Darren Wu threw the game winning pass to Edward Guo with just 2 seconds left in the game to help his team win 21-20. In three games played, Darren Wu has 10 goals.

Los Angeles, Steven Chang has moved from the cutter position to the handler position. He is now responsible for getting the offense started with crisp passes. One of his cutters is Bryan Nguyen. Nguyen has shown the hops needed to excel in the league. In just 2 games, he has 9 goals. Nguyen is showing hints of being a star.

In the East, the duo of Phil Watanabe and Jackie Hau are still doing their thing in leading Toronto to a hot start with 2 victories.

In San Jose – perhaps the best team in the league – Chuck Cao is playing the ‘quarterback’ position. He’s the first guy to touch the disc on offense on nearly every possession. Cao had 3 assists in the win over San Francisco.
