Lyoto Machida Beats Gegard Mousasi Has No Problem With Belfort On TRT; Would Consider The Treatment

With his dominant win over Gegard Mousasi on Saturday night, Lyoto Machida has almost certainly secured the next middleweight title shot against the winner of Chris Weidman vs. Vitor Belfort.

Belfort and Weidman will square of this Summer in Las Vegas, Nevada, for the main event of UFC 173. “The Dragon” is currently waiting on surgery for a broken foot, if he can return in time he will most likely get a shot against the victor of UFC 173’s main event. The former light-heavyweight champion gave his thoughts on the upcoming title bout recently when speaking to Brazilian sports website nagradedomma:

“I think this is a tough matchup for both.” Machida said. “Anyone can win. I think that in the beginning of the fight Belfort has more chances but Weidman compensates with endurance. He is a young guy with a lot of consciousness.”

One of the big topics surrounding the highly anticipated title fight, is whether or not Belfort will be granted a therapeutic-use exemption (TUE) to receive testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) leading up to the fight. Belfort has been receiving the controversial treatment for the past year, but questions have been raised about his need for TRT with him having been caught using steroids in the past, but there definitely should be some treatment options.

The Nevada State Athletic Commission’s former executive director, Keith Keizer, has previously stated that Belfort would not be granted permission to receive TRT if he fought in Las Vegas – “The Phenom” has only been having TRT while fighting in Brazil, where the UFC regulates it’s own events. Machida also spoke about this issue and he doesn’t think Belfort is doing anything wrong, he would even consider the treatment himself.
