USC’s Japanese RB John Akiba plays against Cal

USC played walk-on running back John Akiba in the 68-28 rout over Cal.  The senior Akiba had 4 rushes for 21 yards.

2013: He is a reserve walk-on tailback as a senior in 2013.

2012: He is a reserve walk-on tailback as a junior in 2012 after joining the team in the spring of 2012.

Junior College: As a 2010 sophomore running back at Saddleback Junior College in Mission Viejo (Calif.), he ran for 191 yards on 49 carries (3.9 avg.) with 3 TDs, caught 5 passes for 25 yards (5.0 avg.), had 2 kickoff returns for 16 yards (8.0 avg.) and made 2 tackles. He made the 2010 Southern California Football Association Scholar Team. As a 2009 freshman, he had 57 yards on 14 carries (4.1 avg.) and caught 5 passes for 90 yards (18.0 avg.) with 1 TD.

High School: He was a 2008 All-South Coast League second team pick as a senior fullback at Mission Viejo (Calif.) High. He ran for 129 yards on 23 carries (5.6 avg.) with 2 TDs and caught 6 passes for 80 yards (13.3 avg.) with 2 TDs as a senior. As a 2007 junior, he had 109 yards on 22 carries (5.0 avg.) with 1 TD and caught 10 passes for 90 yards (9.0 avg.).

Personal: He is a business administration major at USC with a B- average (2.90 GPA). He also plays rugby. He speaks fluent Japanese.
