At an invitation-only awards ceremony at the Rio Hotel and Casino Monday night, poker legends Tom McEvoy and Scotty Nguyen were inducted into the prestigious WSOP Hall of Fame.
The event was attended by friends and family of the new inductees along with some of the most prestigious names in poker, including hall of fame members T.J. Cloutier, Phil Hellmuth, Barbara Enright, Mike Sexton and Eric Drache.
The festive occasion was filled with stories and remembrances of McEvoy and Nguyen, none more captivating than the speech delivered by McEvoy’s daughter telling of her father’s career that began with the elder McEvoy uprooting his family from Michigan to move to Las Vegas following a tournament win in the 70s.
The celebration continued with the tales of Scotty Nyugen’s unlikely assent in poker—from a vietnam refugee that couldn’t speak English to the fan-friendly prince of poker.
McEvoy and Nguyen became the 41st and 42nd inductees, and the 19th and 20th living members.
