Cung Le: Asian Market Is Huge

As MMA starts to become recognized globally, former Strikeforce middleweight champion Cung Le thinks the biggest boom will come from the Asian area.

“I feel like the Asian market will be the next big market,” said Le on The Fight Nerd. “I think the UFC should focus and go about slowly marketing it.”

The UFC made their first presence in China for FUEL TV in November. The main event saw Le defeat the American Rich Franklin with a first round knockout punch. It earned Le Knockout of the Night and later Knockout of the Year. UFC president Dana White said the promotion will be returning as the event was a major success with over 8,400 fans in attendance.

Earlier in the month, the UFC returned to Japan from the Saitama Super Arena with a nearly 15,000 attendance gate.

After a 7-1 run in Strikeforce, Le joined the UFC. He’s since upped his record to 9-2.

In an ideal situation, he would coach opposite Anderson Silva on The Ultimate Fighter before the two would meet for the title. That’s just a dream and Le has no confirmed fights.
