Chinese boxer Xiong Zhao Zhong Makes History With WBC Title Win

Chinese boxer Xiong Zhao Zhong captured the vacant interim-minimumweight title of the World Boxing Council (WBC), with a twelve round a unanimous decision over Mexican fighter Javier Martinez Redendiz at the Kunming City Stadium in Kunming, China. In the first half of the fight they fought at an intense pace, but in the second half Zhao Zhong severely punished Martinez and clearly dominated to win.

The scores were 116-114 116-112 and 119-110 in favor of the hometown boxer, who raised his record to 20-4-1, with 11 knockouts, while Martinez fell to 13-4-2, with 6 knockouts . With this win, Zhong becomes the first professional world boxing champion in the history of China.

In other matches on the card, the super Jomthong Chuwatana (4-0, 3 KOs) won a twelve round decision over Ranel Suco (14-7-2, 6 KOs) in a bout for the WBC Asia Continental and OPBF 130-pound titles. Former world title challenger Peter Okello (21-6, 19 KOs) won by TKO in the fourth round over Freddie Miller (3-7-1, 2 KOs).
