Nam Phan happy with victory, but would have been happier with UFC on FOX 4 bonus

Nam Phan got his hand raised against Cole Miller on Saturday and then had four fights to stress over the possibility of an extra paycheck.

Halfway through those four fights, he knew he might be in trouble, though he didn’t give up hope that his split decision win over Cole Miller on the UFC on FOX 4 prelims might withstand Joe Lauzon‘s submission of Jamie Varner on the main card.

“I got in the back and I thought, ‘Please! Boring fights, please!,'” Phan on Monday told MMAjunkie.com Radio (www.mmajunkie.com/radio) about his hope for a “Fight of the Night” bonus.

When Lauzon locked up a triangle choke against Varner, Phan (18-10 MMA, 2-3 UFC) had some hope. Maybe, he thought, Lauzon would get the “Submission of the Night” win and he could be rewarded for his fight.

Joe Lauzon comes out and I was like, ‘God dangit, no! Stop it! Stop throwing punches! Somebody stall!'” Phan recalled. “I was in the back and I thought, ‘He finished him! He’s going to get “Submission of the Night,”‘ but he got two of them!”

Lauzon indeed got two of them – $50,000 each for the night’s top submission and the night’s top fight.
