Team Vietnam had female judoka Van Ngoc Tu kick-start its London Olympics journey on July 28, whose first phase wrapped up with 13 athletes going home empty-handed, and today another martial artist will take the wheel of the team’s second journey to seek its very first medal.
Le Huynh Chau will be competing at the taekwondo men’s -58kg qualifier on Wednesday, while his female teammate Chu Hoang Dieu Linh will fight in the women’s -67kg two days later.
The group drawing ceremony that took place Monday, however, resulted in a rough start for the two Vietnamese athletes.
In his first match, Chau will encounter Wei Chen Yang of Taiwan, the event’s second seed.
Yang, 20, is considered a strong obstacle for the Vietnamese, although Chau has previously beaten him twice at the Asia Olympic qualifier in 2011, and the Asian championship held in Ho Chi Minh City last May.
