When UFC 149 goes live on Saturday night from the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Urijah Faber and Renan Barao will keep everyone’s attention inside the octagon during the main event.
Outside the cage, however, all eyes will be on Ultimate Fighting Championship’s popular octagon girl Arianny Celeste. Prior to Saturday’s card, the cover girl for Playboy, Maxim, Shape and others went 1-on-1 with Postmedia News mixed-martial-arts reporter Dave Deibert, discussing horror movies, life as a nerd and the art of the kiss-and-wave …
POSTMEDIA: On your Twitter feed, you describe yourself as ‘Not That Cool.’ What’s the nerdiest thing you’ve done recently?
CELESTE: (Laughs) I think all around my personality is just really goofy and nerdy. I read all the time. I like playing video games. I like watching Family Guy. I’m just a goofball.
POSTMEDIA: You’re always dancing in your seat cageside as the fighters make their walks to the cage. If you were to switch jobs, what would your walkout music be?
CELESTE: It would be Loca, by Shakira.
POSTMEDIA: It’s commonly accepted that lovely ladies virtually never have to wait in line at a club. So, when was the last time you had to wait to get in somewhere?
CELESTE: (Laughs) For a club? When was that? The last time it was in Miami. It’s all about who you know in Miami.
POSTMEDIA: If you were to appear on Jeopardy, tell me a random category that you would absolutely clean up in.
CELESTE: Probably movies and music.
POSTMEDIA: You’re a self-described fan of horror movies. What was the last really good one you saw?
CELESTE: There hasn’t really been a lot lately. They’re kind of cheesy now a day. I like The Ring. I like the classics like Jason and Freddy Krueger.
