Video: Lee Nguyen’s sweet revenge, 2 Goals and assist in New England Revolutions 4-1 win over Vancouver Whitecaps

Lee Nguyen couldn’t have dreamed up sweeter revenge. Lee Nguyen scored his first MLS goal.

The former Vancouver Whitecaps midfielder scored two goals and added an assist Saturday to power the New England Revolution to a 4-1 win over the Caps at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass.

Nguyen, a former U.S. international, was acquired by Vancouver in a weighted lottery in December but waived by the club in March and immediately snapped up by New England.  Nguyen left Vancouver under a bit of a cloud, as he got into trouble for tweeting a homophobic slur but the Caps denied that was the reason he was waived.

Whatever the reason, the 25-year-old Vietnamese/American has found a home in New England, appearing in every game so far this season.

Caps coach Martin Rennie commended Lee Nguyen for his excellent game. “He showed the difference between the highs and lows of soccer,” he said. “A few weeks ago, it was the low of not being wanted by a club and then the high tonight of being Man of the Match.”
